How do I apply for a driving licence?

You can apply online and avoid going to an NDLS centre. You need a Public Services Card (PSC) and verified MyGovID.

How much does the licence cost?

Full driving licence 700€ (first application or renewal): €300
Learner permit: €500€
Exchange of a foreign licence: €350
Replacement/duplicate licence: €400

How long does it take to receive my licence?

A normal learner permit or driving licence application is generally processed within 3–5 working days once there are no issues with the application and register

You should then allow up to 1 working days for An Post delivery after NDLS sends your approval notification.

How do I renew my driving licence?

Upload any documents requested. A medical report may be required depending on your circumstances. 

Submit the application and wait for your new licence to be issued.
